Police oversight in Saint John

Saint John council looked into the idea of dissolving the Board of Police Commissioners but decided against it, after an independent review identified the board’s problems and how to make things better. A report to Saint John council this week laid out a roadmap to help improve police oversight and Emily Brass talks to the author, Fred Kaustinen.

Congratulations to Fred Kaustinen

Chief Governance Officer for the Halton Police Board, on being awarded the 2024 Canadian Association of Police Governance Award for Excellence in Police Governance for his decades of service to police board across Canada.

It was my pleasure to nominate Fred, with the unanimous and enthusiastic support of the entire board. It has been, and continues to be, a pleasure getting to work with Fred as we provide excellence in governance and civilian police oversight to the people of Halton Region.
